Hi Caroline, I don't know what kind of whistles Fred Morrison plays, but both Michael Burke whistles (which I play) and John Sindt whistles are popular amongst many whistlers looking for something else. You can find out much more by exploring this site: http://www.chiffandfipple.com/ Burke whistles are here: http://www.burkewhistles.com/ Other sites include this: http://www.kerrywhistles.com/

Beware that a wider bore means more breath required to play in tune and it will probably be louder than other whistles. If starting out, I would go for tone if possible.

I keep thinking that maybe I should put up a post all about whistles.

Can you suggest some sites/stores where I might be able to purchase tin whistles in various keys. I was watching Fred Morrison and he plays a larger, wider one than either my c or d whistles but I can't determine what exactly it is? Thanks

Hi Gordon,
Hope you're well. Actually, I wanted to go to the session at Sandy Bell's last night but felt too tired. Unfortunately, the last time, Cauldstane Slap played at the Captain's Bar, I hardly had any money, (enough for food, and other stuff,) but because of problems with my benefit, I had to go and see my Mum in Blackhall, the next day, and she lent me some money to tide me over. So, sorry about that!
Will try and listen to the 'Midsummer flutes and whistles at Hailes Castle' tracks, at an internet cafe`, where they have broadband! It should be great!
All the best,

Vicky

Hi Gordon,

Hope you're well. Thanks very much for your encouraging comments, about the beginners' whistle class making good progress. Also, I'm finding the Fun flute class interesting and fun, and sometimes it's good to try and play using the music, and then take it away, and see how you get on. I should give that a try, just to see how much I can remember.
Anyway, hope you're enjoying the nice weather, today, after the horrible days of rain!

See you at the class on Wednesday.

All the best,

Vicky

Hi Amble,

If you follow the link above, the dots are published in a PDF on The Fun Flute page, along with a recording of it and the music in ABC format. Let me know how you get on.

Hi Ruth,

I'm glad you had a good time — hopefully you'll be back another time and spread the word.

Although I was participating in the festival, I wasn't one of the organisers, but I'll pass on your good points to those in a better position to deal with it as I'm sure they will be interested.

Hi

Peter and I have just got back and have had such a great time. The camping was amazing (for the right reasons) We were glad of the use of the showers and the catering at the Hall. You should know that there was some confusion as campers were told of the arrangements which had been made but when I followed up intending to go for a hot breakfast I was redirected by people in the cafe shop to the right of the building who it would seem were not aware that the kitchen was open. I only realised my error by chance but I believe that others may have made the same error and trade may have been lost to the Hall as a result. You should also know that shop keepers in Kelso told me they did not know of the event in Coldstream. A visit to Kelso and the Hirsel fitted quite well within the time of some of the classes attended by children so this may be another avenue to raise some funds in advertising

Hi Joyce, the beginners group should begin next week and as I now have your details I'll be in touch directly about it. It will be on a different day to the Thursday classes.
