Flutes and whistles: Midwinter at Craigmillar Castle

Midwinter at Craigmillar Castle, a recording of whistles and flutes playing traditional music in Craigmillar Castle in Edinburgh has just been made available.

Just before Christmas students from Fun Flute and SMG whistle came together to play some tunes in the Geat Hall at Craigmillar Castle in Edinburgh.

It was an informal occasion, a chance to meet others, celebreate the end of term and midwinter and to play in a great acoustic space on a cold day, with no heating. We hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed playing the music.

I recorded the music on a Zoom H2 and edited the results in Audacity, adding no effects other than fade in/out. We shared the space with members of the public and you can occasionally hear them open the big door and pass in and out of the hall.

The musicians are happy to share the music. Some rights are reserved. Copyright remains with those involved.
